Amala Road, Kahului (Central Maui)
One of the two Maui County camping facilities on the island is Kanaha Beach Park, located next to the Kahului Airport. Wooded and beach sites. The county has two separate areas for camping: seven tent sites on the beach and an additional 10 tent sites inland. This well-used park is a favorite of windsurfers, who take advantage of the strong winds that roar across this end of the island. Facilities include a paved parking lot, restrooms, portable toilets, outdoor showers, barbecue grills, and picnic tables. Camping is limited to no more than 3 consecutive days; the permit fee is $3 per adult and 50¢. No drinking water at campsite but drinking water is available nearby. No open fires allowed. Note: campsite is normally closed for maintenance the last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each month (please check with the above County office).

Honoapiilani Hwy, Lahaina (West Maui)
A wilderness campground on the ocean located approximately 4 miles south of Olowalu between Mile Markers 11 & 12. No running water. Portable toilets, benches, BBQ grills. Open fires are not allowed. Daily security between 6pm-10pm. Note: campsite is normally closed for maintenance every Thursday (please check with the above County office).

The County of Maui had two other parks for camping. Baldwin, which is near the ocean in the town of Paia, and Rainbow, which is nearer the upcountry village of Haliimaile, are now CLOSED.

Tent camping and self-contained mobile campers are allowed. Cabins are not available.
Permits are required - applicants must be age 18 or older.
Permits are available from the above office. If requesting a permit by mail, please allow at least 2 weeks to process permit.
Permits for Papalaua campsites (see below) are also available at the West Maui Parks Permit Office located at the Lahaina Civic Center open 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Mon.-Fri., closed weekends/holidays, tel. (808) 661-4685.
Campers must have a copy of the permit with them during their stay.
Camping is subject to a maximum stay of 3 consecutive nights.
Campsites are shared on a first come/first served basis.
Fees for camping are adult (18 years and over) $3.00 per night; minor (under 18 years of age) $0.50 per night per person.

Maximumstay at A-frames varies. Camping here is on a first come, first served basis. The Episcopal Church operates Camp Pecusa. Rates: tent and vehicle camping $6 per person per night.

The State of Hawai'i maintains two campgrounds with cabins on Maui, Wai'anapanapa State Park is on the coast and Polipoli State Park is in a forest high on the slopes of Haleakala. Camping in state campgrounds is limited to five nights and a camping fee is $5 per campsite per night.
Permits are required and camping dates, names of campers and some form of ID number (drivers liscense) are required.
Cabin rental rates are $46 for up to four people and. $5 for each additional person.

Campsites are open 7 days per week, all year.
Tent camping is permitted (self-contained mobile campers are not allowed). Cabins are available.
Permits are required for camping and cabins. Applicants must be age 18 or older.
Permit applications may be made in writing, by phone, or in person, and must be received at least 7 days before the camping/cabin event and no earlier than 1 year in advance. The Application for a State Parks Permit is available in PDF format on the Hawaii State Parks website.
Max. stay per permit at any one park is 5 consecutive nights.
Tent camping is $5.00 per campsite per night. Cabins are not free (see below).
Reservations are required for camping and cabins. If making reservations by phone, please have ready the names and I.D. for each person (Drivers License, Social Security, Passport, etc.).
Once the permit and reservation dates requested are tentatively approved, the full payment for camping fees and/or a 50% deposit for cabin fees is required within 2 weeks to confirm a reservation. Note: If the date of reservation is within 30 days, these payments are due immediately. The 50% balance for lodging fees is due upon arrival. (Contact the above office for payment and refund policy.)
Cabin Facilities: Single/duplex housekeeping cabins with 1-3 bedrooms, kitchen-living room, bathroom facilities.

POLIPOLI Spring State Recreation Area
At 6200 feet elevation in Kula Forest Reserve, 9.7 miles upland from Kula on Waipoli Road off Kekaulike Avenue (Highway 377); (road is often rough, muddy) 4-wheel drive vehicle recommended.  Camping and lodging (one cabin) within the fog belt of Kula forest. Extensive trail system in the forest reserve, including through a forest reminiscent of the conifer forests of the Pacific Northwest coast. Sweeping views of Central and West Maui, Kaho'olawe, Moloka'i and Lana'i in clear weather.Pig and seasonal bird hunting. Nights are generally cold; winter nights frequently have below freezing temperatures. No campground showers.
Polipoli is located in Upcountry Maui, 30 miles from Wailuku.  Situated in dense forest this is the perfect spot if you are looking for solitude.  Tent camping is available for 20 people.  There is one cabin that accommodates up to ten with a gas stove and lanterns, a cold shower and wood burning stove are provided.(no electricity, refrigerator or towels). 10.0 acres
Rates: Tent camping $5 per campsite per night; cabin $45 per night for 1-4 people plus $5 for each additional person (ten persons maximum). Note: The Polipoli cabin is not available on Tuesday nights.

Waianapanapa is located three miles north of Hana at the end of Wai'anapanapa Road off Hana Highway (Highway 360), 52.8 miles east of Kahului Airport and a 2-3 hour drive.
122.1-acre park in a wild, forested, low-cliffed, volcanic coastal setting.
Remote, wild, low-cliffed volcanic coastline offering solitude and respite from urban life. Lodging, camping, picnicking, shore fishing and hardy family hiking along an ancient Hawaiian coastal trail which leads to Hana. Excellent opportunity to study a seabird colony and anticline pools. Other features include native hala forest, legendary cave, heiau (place of worship), natural stone arch, sea stacks, blow holes and small black sand beach. 
There is tent camping for 60 people and 12 cabins that accommodate up to six people each The cabins are furnished with bedding, towels, cooking and eating utensils, electricity, hot water, showers, stoves and refrigerators.

The park has two distinct sections located in two different areas: the Summit area is located in Upcountry Maui (readily accessible); the Kipahulu area is located near Hana (a more remote area). Both areas are vehicle accessible.

There are two main campgrounds: Hosmer Grove, at 6000 foot elevation on Haleakala National Park (50 person limit) Kipahulu, 40 minutes south west of Hana (100 person limit) Permits are not required for these two campgrounds. There is a four day three night limit for these campgrounds.

Hosmer Grove Campground: a popular forested drive-in campsite located just inside the park entrance in the Summit area. Facilities include picnic tables, BBQ grills, outdoor pit toilets, and drinking water. Hosmer Grove Campground is often cool, windy or rainy. Maximum occupancy is 50 people.

Kipahulu Campground: a primitive drive-in campsite, near the ocean.
Kipahulu Campground can be warm, wet, and breezy with mosquitoes and passing showers. NO WATER is available (you must bring your own); bring drinking water with you. There are a few tables and grills, and chemical toilets. Maximum occupancy is 100 people.

Haleakala National Park consists of 28,655 acres of which 19,270 are wilderness. The park preserves the outstanding volcanic landscape of the upper slopes of Haleakala rising to 10,023-foot elevation and protects the unique and fragile ecosystems of the Kipahulu Valley, the scenic pools along Oheo Gulch, and many rare and endangered species. The following information applies to the park's two drive-in campgrounds (Hosmer Grove and Kipahulu) and backcountry campsites and cabins. For more information, please visit the park's Website.

The park entrance is located in the Summit area. The 7-day park entry fee is $10 per vehicle; $5 per bicyclist, motorcyclist, and hiker; free for Golden Age/Eagle Passport holders.

Federal Campgrounds, Wilderness Camping and Cabins
Holua Cabin/Campground located 4 miles (one way) along the Halemauu Trail, or 7 miles from Sliding Sands trailhead.
Paliku Cabin/Campground located 10 miles (one way) along either the Sliding Sands Trail, or the Halemauu Trail, or 8 miles up the Kaupo Trail.
Kapala'oa Cabin/Campground located 6 miles along the Sliding Sands Trail, or approximately 8 miles along the Halemauu Trail.

These Cabins/Campgrounds are all located within the confines of Haleakala crater. Permits are required. Stays at these areas are limited to three nights per month, with 2 nights in a row allowed per site.
The cabins are very popular, so there is a lottery held two months in advance. Send in a written request 2 months prior to the desired date (earlier is better), to be included in the drawing. 808-243-7389
Haleakala National Park operates four campgrounds. Paliku and Holua campgrounds are in the crater; and, Hosmer Grove and the Pools at 'Ohe'o campgrounds are outside the crater.  Camping in the National Park is free, but a permit is required and the numbers of campsites are limited.

There are also three cabins available for rent in the Park and reservations are handled through a lottery system. Write to the Park Superintendent, Haleakala National Park, P. 0. Box 569, Makawao, HI 96768 at least three months before your visit. Include the number of people in your group, the exact dates and the cabin(s) you choose to use each night.  You will be contacted only if your request is drawn in the lottery.  For more information, call 808-572-4400. 

Wilderness Campgrounds at Paliku and Holua have pit toilets, and a limited non-potable water supply. Water must be treated before drinking. You will have to carry your water in times of drought. No open fires are permitted. Maximum occupancy is 25 people in each campground.
Permits Camping is allowed on a first-come, first-served basis in designated areas only. There is no fee. Permits are required for the wilderness campgrounds and must be obtained the day of the trip at Park Headquarters between 8 am and 3 p.m.

Camping is free. Fees for cabin permits are based on number of people in the party: 1-6 people $40.00 per cabin; 7-12 people $80.00 per cabin. (Max. cabin capacity 12 persons.)

Cabin reservations are made via lottery. To enter the lottery, write to Haleakala National Park, Attention Cabins, at least 3 months prior to the month of your trip. Include your first and alternate choices of dates and cabin preferred.

Cabin cancellations occasionally occur. To check on availability, call the park at (808) 572-4400 between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Visa or Mastercard is needed to secure a reservation by phone.
